With reference to the letter from this Department
of July 2nd. last, I am directed by Secretary Sir F.
Grey to transmit to you, herewith, to be laid before the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of &
despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking giving
Sir J. Jordan's views upon the proposal made in May
last by the Officer Administering the Government of
Hongkong with regard to the lighthouse situated upon
Gap Rock.
Sir E. Grey does not desire to add anything to
Sir J. Jordan'a observations with which he is in entire
agreement.
